Warm white light (approximately 2700K on the Kelvin scale) is usually best suited for bedrooms and the living room since it creates a cozy, warm atmosphere. In offices and kitchens, the coolest white light (4000K to 5000K) is most ideal because it allows for concentration and is more clearer.
Another factor to consider is wattage or light brightness, in lumens. A bulb with a light output of between 800 and 1,000 lumens will be suitable for most living rooms. Brighter, however, may be needed in places like kitchens, garages, or offices where sharpness and definition are necessary.
You will also need to consider the shape and size of the bulb. Standard bulbs will work in most fixtures, but if you are doing decorative lighting, i.e., a pendant or chandelier fixture, you might find that you will need little small shapes. You can also purchase dimmable LED bulbs, which will allow you to control how bright or not bright the light can be and create an adjustment in the mood in different rooms.
The Environmental Advantage of Saving Bulbs
One of the most compelling arguments for using energy-saving light bulbs such as LEDs or CFLs is because of their environmental benefit. They consume a lot of less electricity, which will decrease your carbon footprint and make the world a greener place.
